Les Hinton was born in Bootle, Merseyside, and grew up as a wandering soldier’s son in Egypt, Eritrea, Libya, Germany, Singapore, and Australia. In Australia, at the age of fifteen, he took a job as a copy boy on a newspaper owned by young Rupert Murdoch. He stayed on as Murdoch’s empire expanded, working as a reporter, foreign correspondent, editor, and executive, managing large parts of his company in America and the United Kingdom. He lives in New York and London with his wife Kath.
